He was a household name in the amateur community.  And a gentleman. 
Years ago I sent him my QSL/sase with Australian postage not realizing
Norfolk 
had their own. He sent me his QSL in a different envleope on his dime and
enclosed a note explaining it to me...chances are someone else
might have ignored my request. VK9NS RIP   73 al

I still remember a QSO I had with him years ago on 14260.  He was 
calling CQ IOTA and many people were responding but he refused to engage 
anyone who was not on an IOTA (he was calling "CQ IOTA").  The frequency 
finally went clear and he kept calling.  Being on NA-026, not a rare one 
by any measure, I decided to reply and got him on the first call.  We 
chatted briefly, swapped IOTA numbers and eventually I sent for and 
received a QSL. The amateur community has suffered a major loss!
