Hi Ray. I'll take a shot at this. The notes for the deleted countries have
a date for the deletion (or a set of to/from dates). Before the deleted
date, the entity counts. After that date, the entity ceases to exist as far as
dxcc is concerned. The 'old Germany' was before all of Germany was reunited
(as was the East Germany entity). This entity does count towards your TOTAL
DXCC but is not good if you are working for 5BDXCC or the DXCC Challenge.
You'll notice in the DXCC totals listing that 2 numbers are given. The lower
number is your current count, the second is current plus deleted (Mine will
be 338/357 when my latest cards are processed).

The 'new' Germany (after the date give in the notes) counts for those latter
2 awards. So to answer your question, you could have 3 'Germany' counters
- the deleted West Germany and East Germany and the current (united) Germany.

Another example is Swan Island, recently on the air as HQ8R. About 30 years
ago, this island was administered by the United States and counted as a
separate country. OOps, showing my age. I meant separate entity. The US turned
the island over to Honduras, so now for DXCC purposes it counts as HR. If
you had worked it back when it was KS4xx, it counted for DXCC. Same kind of
story for (Panama) Canal Zone, the old KZ5xx, that is now counted as HP.

The short answer is, check the dates on the DXCC notes to see what your qso
counts for.

So, now that you're thoroughly confused... Let me know if I can help further
