[Dx-qsl] Guidance requested

Your input appreciated on this item...

Sep 13, 1990 I worked 4X4RE.  Starting in 2001 I attempted to obtain QSL
card.  Finally got a response today.  XYL says the op is deceased since
November 1998.

I am 100% sure it was a valid contact.  The XYL enclosed a blank QSL card
for me, but she did not comment on any log verification.  

While I technically could fill out the card with my contact details, it
seems to not be in the spirit of DXCC and I am therefore hesitant to do so.
Although DXCC is "just an award," I do consider it to be of the highest
integrity since it values the honesty of its members above all else.

I am not trying to initiate a heated debate on the subject; what I would
appreciate are the candid thoughts of you DXers who are way more experienced
and can provide a perspective on this.
