Folks,

As indicated several times effective Jan.12 there will be a substantial
increase in postal rates in Canada. The overseas letter will cost
$1.40 CDN (up to 30 gr). Here are details.

USA $0.80 CDN (up to 30 gr) $0.98 CDN
(30-50 gr)

International $1.40 CDN (up to 30 gr) $1.96 CDN (30-50
gr).

Current exchange ratio is $1 US = $1.30 CDN, which means that 1 GS
is NOT sufficient for international letter.

What is more devastating is that on the same day, small packets rate
will be increased for about $2 CDN per kg (15% increase), and M-Bags
will be discontinued as service. The only alternative for large shipments
will be parcels which are 50% more expensive in comparison to M-bags.

On the other hand, with declining Cycle 23, and emerging electronic
replacements, we already have noticed 15% drop in QSL traffic in 2003.
This will somewhat off-set the increased postal costs, particularly if
the electronic replacements take bigger share of QSL traffic.

regards
