Hello Val & Steve,
As I know it is very hard to get a QSL from Kure I tried to do some
research for you but did not have much luck. I was a Radio
Operator/Navigator on the U.S. Coast Guard C-130's that supplied all
the Pacific Island LORAN stations and I operated ham radio from all of
them during lay-overs using the stations MARS gear. Kure was one of
these LORAN stations and during my tour of duty in Hawaii the only
people coming or going from Kure were U.S. Coast Guard personal in
connection with the operation of the LORAN station. If I remember
correctly they used a KWM-2 and a Mosley Tri-band Yagi. That was
standard issue for the LORAN stations MARS set-up. I operated from
there many times using my KH6HNZ call portable KH6K. In looking up
KD7P I see that is a club call assigned to a club in Washington
state. I would wonder why someone would use a club call during a
DXpedition. Maybe KD7P was reissued as a club call. I see N7XR, not
K7XR, is the club trustee. Maybe he could help. I went to the Coast
Guard Radio Operators/ZUT web site at:
http://home1.gte.net/ke7a/net.htm
and looked for KD7P and N7XR wondering if that call was listed as a
CG/ZUT member. It was not. There was a KD7PHH listed if there is
anyway possible the call was busted?
Anyway, since Kure is so hard to QSL I might suggest you go to that
web site and ask if anyone was at Kure during that time period and if
so who do you contact for a log check and confirmation.
