I vaguely recall someone saying to put South Atlantic Ocean
on the envelope so the scanning system doesn't pick up Helena and think it's
the US City...

I had something similar once, in an air mail envelope, with a foreign air
mail stamp.
But apparently the scanning software picked up the city name and as there
was no such address bounced it for return to sender...

I found it's good practice NOT to put any numbers on the last line of the
address lest they be detected as USA zip code numbers.
