I have got a question from another DX'er without Internet about
701AA in 1990. I think DL2BCH, Gabriele, has ''closed the log'',
anyone that knows anything, got a card the during the last 3 years
or so?

Second, I need myself a QSL from HC2DX, ''new one'' on 12 meters,
anyone knows where Otto is now, have not heard him for a long time!

Thanks in advance and 73/DX de Osten SM5DQC

7O1AA was a club station located in Aden city in one of the PTT buildings
in Tawwahi district, (Commercial Capital of Yemen Republic). It was first
established on temporary bases in July 29th., 1990, to 12/8/1990. A licence
has been granted to G. Deblle and P. Granger, two French Ham operators,
when they got the permission to operate Ham activities from Aden with the
call sign 7O8AA in Aden the Capital city of previous south Yemen. They have
donated a Kenwood station for the club, comprising of TS950SD, with a
Linear amplifier and three element antenna. After that, the club was
operated as 7O1AA by three local operators, OM Hamid Al Attar, and two YL's
Asiya and Iman. After the unification of Yemen, when it became the republic
of Yemen, and at the national war in Yemen in 1994, the station was damaged
and went QRT. Now there is no more Ham activity from 7O land, and it seems
that there is no hope in the near future. There are some rumors from time
to time that someone of the world's Ham operators announces that he is
going to get or got a permission for Ham activity in Yemen. This should not
be easily believed, because it is very difficult task to get the official
permission there. I am Ahmed Nasser, I am coming from Yemen and I know the
situation very well there. I had a chance in April 1994 to operate from the
club station of 7O1AA, as a guest operator for almost 6 weeks. I have
applied first time for my Ham licence in 1973, when the south part of Yemen
was a communist country, but I could not get it. When the Yemen unified, I
thought it would improve, and I have applied again in Sana'a in 1994, but
unfortunately I found it is still too hard, even to try, it is very
difficult. Every year when I go there for my vacation, I try, but still no
luck. Many Ham organizations from all the world have been trying, but no
luck too. This is the situation in Yemen, for ham activities. Now I am in
HZ land and I operate from HZ1FM as the 2nd. operator. Written by Ahmed
Nasser (HZ1FM 2nd. Op.) Ex-guest operator from 7O1AA. Present QTH,Jeddah
