Howdy. (not cause Im from Texas but an Aggie from Texas A&M) The reason for
the Via France is that France keeps a mail bag (box, bin etc you pick) for
the island of Mauritius. This way the letter does not go via a 3rd world
country who more likely than Mauritius has a postal worker in a bad mood. I
saw the via France here on a number of occasions with the above explanation.
Thanks for the input as all knowledge from others on things is GOOD thing.

Hi Reid!
Well, that's not completely correct, if you write ''via France''
does no harm, BUT Rodriguez Island is a part of Mauritius
so ''via Mauritius Island'' might get a ''local'' postal manager
there in a bad mood... And even though Mauritius is an
island, it's a independent country, so it should be ONLY
Mauritius. Maybe you think I'm too much of a ''besserwisser''
as we say here, as the way you put it worked with 3B9FR,
however it might not do with another station if you don't have
the address completely correct, especially when it comes
to the name of the country.
Correct address, 3B9FR, used it myself several times, is:
Mr Robert Felicite
P O Box 31
Rodriguez Island
MAURITIUS
''via France'', why not? But maybe could cause a delay as
there is no French zip-code for Mauritius.
Absolutely NOT via F6FNU, he has no logs...
