Why waste time and bandwidth discussing this any more? Somaliland wasn't
issued a prefix block by the ITU, doesn't have a seperate IARU member
society and isn't a member of the U.N., so it doesn't count as a seperate
entity under the rules. Why is this so hard to fathom?
The case of Palestine is entirely seperate and has nothing to do with
Somaliland, so why continue to bring it up? There are probably a myriad of
political reasons why Palestine was issued a prefix block and not
Somaliland, not the least of which is international pressure by specific
interest groups, having absolutely NOTHING to do with amateur radio. No
radio amateur, short of the few that are heads of state, could have any
influence on this process. Any person with normal intellligence and an
interest in international news could easily figure out why Palestine is
getting treatment that Somaliland is not.
So let's quit casting aspersions where they don't belong just because we're
upset that some prefix we worked doesn't count as an official "entity" yet.
No amount of discussion on a DX reflector (or writing in the DX column of a
magazine with subscription smaller than the population Madison, Wisconsin)
is going to change this situation- only a change in attitude by the
international community regarding the independence (or lack thereof) of this
particular small African country will.
