Here in the states if you don't watch which kind of envelopes you buy
you could end up with ones that don't have glue on the flap. These are
used to hold an invitation (wedding, graduation, etc) where you just
tuck the flap in put only a name and generally no address, and don't
seal it and then place it in a slightly larger envelope for addressing
and mailing.
Also many, many years ago the U.S. Postal system had a slightly cheaper
rate (by 1 or 2 cents) for letters if you didn't seal them, but simply
tucked the flap inside the envelope.
Another weird thing, back in the 1950s my dad was paying our family's
monthly bills and only had an air mail envelope left to pay his final
bill that month. So he used it to send in a gas or electric bill to
downtown Dallas TX I don't remember which utility bill it was. Well a
couple days later he got the bill back with 5 cents postage due for
"airmail" service to downtown Dallas from the suburbs. Airmail postage
was like 8 cents and first class letter postage was 3 cents or so. I
would have liked to see the post office land a plane in downtown Dallas
hi hi to deliver airmail letters......................
73 es have a good day today and a better one tomorrow.
