Fellow DXers:

FYI

While sitting in the surgeon's waiting room for my XYL Cheryl (WY5H and
yes she is a DXer with 334 on phone) today to get the stitches out of
her hand after recent carpal tunnel surgery I came upon the following
information in the Nov/Dec issue of "National Geographic Traveler"
magazine concerning airmail times from various locales around the world
to the USA. In their test the magazine had correspondents send airmail
letters/postcards to their Washington D.C. headquarters and mailing
times were based on postmarks. They did not list actual cost of air mail
just mailing times.

The results:

Nairobi Kenya 22 days; Johannesburg South Africa 21 days; Cusco Peru 18
days; Bali Indonesia 12 days; Bol Croatia 12 days; Hong Kong China 11
days; Katmandu Nepal 9 days; Paris France 9 days; Reykjavik Iceland 7
days; Amsterdam Netherlands 7 days; Toronto Canada 6 days; and Bozeman
Montana 3 days (not exactly DX unless you need MT for Worked All
States).

The magazine did not say if they did a reverse mailing from the USA back
to these same countries. I can tell you when I was in London in the
summer of 1995 my XYL would send me air mail letters from Dallas/Fort
Worth and they often arrived in 3 days.

Also I was in my local USPS office today buying some more air mail
stamps and I asked the clerk if there was an air mail postage increase
in the mill and he said not as far as they have been advised.
