These NIL stories are interesting. I can recall a couple - one a long time
ago and a recent one. The earlier one was when YA was rare and YA0RR still
counted. Out here in W7 land we hadnt heard Romeo for a week but I guessed
(correctly) when he should be heard, plus time and frequency. So had his
first qso for that day on his frequency before he went split. I hadnt done
insurance contacts before but did for that one later on, split. I dont
remember the details but somehow the first qso was NIL but the insurance one
was good.
Recently we hadnt heard ST0RY on 80 (let alone 160) but on only one evening
they were s7 and the pileup was fierce. I was sure I had a good qso, but NIL
in the online log. So I researched all the W7L calls. There were only three
besides mine (on other bands), and only one lone 80m log entry for W7LO. I
contacted him and he sent me an email saying that he hadnt worked any dx, so
I put that email copy in with the cards sent for ST0RY - too early to tell
the result but worth a try.
