How can bands which have been around for well over 20 (!) years be "esoteric"??
But don't disagree generally...A5 is tough from the west if you're a little 
pistol; the arrival angles always seem to be in the 2-3 degree range.
I very much lucked out and worked A52XX on 10/12m CW a couple of years ago, 
well after dark.  Don't think I could ever work them on lower bands than 
that with my setup.
