[Dx-qsl] Press It - Seal It Envelopes

Another reason not to lick envelopes.
Weak stomachs stop here.
When I was based in the Philippines my officemate bought packs of 10
envelopes. He used to complain that the humidity or something must effect
the glue on the envelopes. When he would open a new pack of envelopes the
glue would stick fine. But after a few days no matter how hard he licked
the envelope the glue would not stick and he had to use a glue stick or
tape to seal the envelope. Then one day there was a power outage. We were
in the office using flashlights. When he opened the drawer containing the
envelopes a bunch of cockroaches went running. Seems the glue on the
envelopes was like candy to them. He never saw them before as we would
turn on the lights as soon as we entered the office and mill around a
little bit before sitting down at our desks. That would give the roaches
time to scamper away unseen to their hiding places. We knew better to keep
food or sugar for the coffee out because the roaches and ants would get to
it, but didn't suspect roaches liked to eat the glue off the envelope
flaps.
Before you condemn us for being dirty remember this is a city where there
are no trash cans or garbage bags. Garbage and trash is just dumped at the
curb to be scooped up with shovels by the garbage truck workers. Our
office had less roaches and mice than most other places, but it was
impossible to get rid of all of them.

I guess the chance is that the QSL may get a water stain...and sometimes I find the lick n seal are not sufficiently glued (you really need warm/hot water to activate the glue). But I've long given up on using my tongue on these things, firstly, some of the glue tastes a lot like dung, and secondly, my guess is that's not the most sanitary thing to do, especially when a greenstamp was under the flap when it was sent to me.
