[Dx-qsl] SOME REASONS FOR QSL CARD DELAYS

Folks,

My two cents on what has changed in past 20 years.

- Sources and reliability of information.

No need to say how many cards have been mis-directred in the past, owing
to out-dated QSL infos. Years old call-books were the only source of
info.

- Postal system

Postal system has improved in itself. Its internal sorting, and choice
of tranpotation has been improved in the last couple of decades. Content
theft still happens, but not as otten as before.

- Understanding the process

In the past QSL service was kind of 'untouchable' service. Now more
people understand how it works, and help the best that can (help sorting
before sending, offer help to managers in processing, post logs on-line
etc.) Occassionally, some managers under-estimate the effort, but in
principle more people think before accept QSL manager duties, and
understand the process end-to-end.

- The future

Well, if all promises of electronic QSO confirmation are half true,
Steve, myself and the like may probably look for another job in the near
future.

DXpeditions have gotten bigger, perhaps, but with computer logging, computer QSL label generation, and the like, I suspect things are actually FASTER, much FASTER than they were even 10 years ago. I remember filling each QSL card when I started by hand, then a dot matrix printer and those big computer labels.....etc etc. I know my 'throughput' is substantially greater now......thanks to laser printers and f
