Hi all:

I had response from many hams trying to assist me in helping a
California ham get confirmation for a contact with FWAB. So many that
I couldn't thank each one individually, so please accept my thanks in
this manner. I appreciate the time and advice I received from the
following:

KI4RU
PY2YP
KQ4YI
K4WLS
Kurt Brandstetter
W8KNH
N5UR
K4WSB

I am an example of what happens when you don't read QSL information
carefully. When I looked at the card, I thought the date written for
the contact was 3/28/02 . It was actually 3/28/72. Nobody's fault
but mine, sorry.

Here is the answer for those that are interested.

FWAB was an expedition by Karl Gamper (VE8KG) when he operated from
Wallis Island back in 1972. His QSL manager for that operation was
VE6TP, but that was not me. I obtained that call years after it's owner
moved from Alberta, Canada. And of course in those days, if you left a
specified area (such as VE6), you could not take your call out of the
province with you.

However, the ham community was notified by the manager of his new call
sign and his new address. I managed to talk with him yesterday and he
told me that he kept the logs for 15 years. Now there are no more
logbooks (hand written by the way) and no more QSL cards available. The
expedition is 30 years old, and I can't blame him for that.

So I will notify our friend in California, but maybe this posting will
help a few others that may be trying to get late verification on this
old dxpedition. I hope it clarifies the situation for some. I am
deliberately omitting the former managers present callsign and address,
etc., as it would serve no purpose. There is no past information
available now.

Again, my thanks to all those who helped. Well done.
