Hi Martin...
We've looked into revisiting CY, but things have changed DRASTICALLY
since I was there in 1996. the cost factor would be about TWICE of what
it was then due to many factors. They range anywhere from just allowing
access to the island/permits/environmental attitudes, to
transportation/residence costs. The cost from EU would be MUCH greater,
and therefore not realistic from there, but more cost effective from
US/Canada base.
If my feeble brain can recollect, the total cost of the trip, without our
tickets to and from, and all of the hundreds of $$$ on telephone bills
communicating with the Canadian Gov't officials, and all the participants
ahead of time for months, amounted to $21000 US. Wayne, K8LEE, and
myself have spoken about a return with better SFI numbers this time
(SFI=77 then!!) The costs have become much more prohibitive for me (2
teenagers headed for college), and certainly Wayne, and Mike VE9AA, or
whomever, would up against a cashflow nemesis for a DXCC "marginal"
entity, other than 6 and 2 meters.
All the best Martin...wish we could've worked you. Beautiful QSL, and
lotsa fun on our parts.
Good luck on the next CY !!!
