Where is it written that QSL's should be handled first come first served?
In fact, where is it written that anyone is obligated to QSL and that when
you send one you are entitled to a return one?
My point is that some of us are expecting things that we shouldn't.
Personally, I like the way that KU9C handles it, and that's more or less the
way I'd try to do things if I ever have the opportunity. But that's neither
here nor there.
There is more than one way for a DXpedition to handle incoming cards.
Certainly FIFO is the "fairest" and most "democratic," but let's face it,
that doesn't always happen. Some managers have their own ways of doing
things, sometimes for good reasons. Some managers & expeditions handle the
larger donations first (some are more honest about it than others) and I'm
sure they have their justifications -- and they might be right for their
circumstance(s).
Thing is, we forget that in general, sending and answering QSL cards is a
COURTESY, NOT an obligation. Is it good amateur practice, to say nothing
of the right thing to do? Definitely. But we have no right to constantly
demand that cards be turned around and answered quickly. It's nice when it
happens, and we all hope it does most of the time, but it's still a
courtesy.
(And yes, I know there are situations with certain special event stations,
special contest calls, and/or requirements of a sponsor on an expedition to
require cards be answered & answered within a reasonable time period --
those are special cases, not the general one)
One last comment: Getting the full color 2 large folded QSL card with
details of the expedition, the ops, the sponsors, etc. is certainly nice.
Frankly, though, a lot of the time I'd be just as happy with a "plain" QSL
card that has the basic information printed on it, if I could get it in a
month instead of 6 months. This despite the fact that I enjoy collecting
QSL cards and enjoy immensely these very cards, but when I want them for the
purposes of an award, the window dressing is superfluous. But maybe that's
just me.

Steve,
Let me clarify.
All I said was: why should you jump the queue because you donate?
Surely logical sorting is:-
(i) first come, first served;
subject to
(ii) Different postal area sorting to facilitate batches being mailed
to areas with different posage rates,
I don't know how you go through 1000 envelopes and pick out the
ones with donations inside. Laser vision?
Am I missing the point somewhere?
