QSL collecting will continue regardless of the awards that ARRL, IARU, RSGB,
CQ Magazine, Worldradio, etc. sponsor. They are not just the "final
courtesy" of a QSO but also the closest thing to "proof" of the contact that
exists, which is one of the many reasons they came into being in the first
place.

A further thought on the subject.

To what extent does collecting QSL cards help to maintain
       interest in our hobby?

If the A.R.R.L. decided, for reasons of cost and manpower, to
abolish the DXCC Awards program tomorrow, would we still send cards
       to one another?

Or would the lack of incentive for entity-card-collecting simply
further
       reduce activity on the bands?

If the answer is that card-collecting is part of the incentive to
enjoy
the hobby, the same incentive obviously applies to SWLs..

Am I writing this too late at night?
