Hi Dave
Its easy.
Standard DXCC Awards can be Phone, CW, RTTY, Satellite or Mixed
but band DXCC Awards are Mixed mode by default, no matter
in what mode you work and confirm a new-one that will always
count towards your specific band DXCC.

DXCC Challenge is also mixed mode by default.

Ofcourse for the band and Challenge DXCC Awards/Plaque
the Satellite Mode does NOT count, HI ! 
Satellite does not also count for the standard Mixed mode
DXCC (Satellite is considered a repeater of some sort).
