I would like to find more about being a QSL manager for a DX station.
What is involved? (other than filling out cards & confirming calls in the
log.)
Depends on station. Some cases that is all, but some may want you to work up
their DXCC etc.
I do several of my own calls but that is one case. However. I also do 4 that
want help on DXCC, WAS & WAZ. All are now very close to Honor Roll, but still
a job to track.
I have told them that I will not worry about any other awards though. Too
much to track and handle. I also do one that just wants cards answered, that
is easy!
Does the DX station purchase his own cards or is the manager responsible for
that?
I buy most of them, pretty generic cards from Rusprint although I still have
some from one of the stations that he gave me. But they do pay for them.
Does the manager send the cards to the DX station after a few get built up?
Who pays?
Most want the cards and I send by surface post (cheapest) and I track income
and expenses as the Green Stamps don't really cover anymore now that overseas
in $.80. I let them know how much + or - every so often. I also have been
doing their QST subscription and CQ. That is however because they do not have
VISA and are personal friends. Every so often we have someone traveling that
can hand carry $$ and or cards
My XYL and I are very interested in being QSL managers, but really need a to
know more about it.
Probably the best way is to have a common logging program that will allow
them to send log by Email and allow you to ADD the current additions to
existing log. Note, some programs while they allow for multiple logbooks,
they may not allow the addition of new entries.
If they are sending hand write or log by Email that you can print out, MUST
be legible and should be in date/time order.
Good luck
Bob
