Well Fred, since you sent this to the whole reflector, before I get another
ton of emails on it (sorry for the bandwith gang)...
The important thing is NOT whether or not Gary Kildall enjoyed hang gliding
or where. (I have been told by one "authority" that it wasn't hang gliding,
he was flying his new plane for the first time; I've been told by another
that the urban legend is untrue, he wasn't flying in any form at all).
In fact, the important thing isn't whatever it was that he was doing, it was
what he DIDN'T do. On such things destiny turns. "For want of a nail..."
and so on.

OK, I'll be the one to bite. A Google Search on Gary Kildall produced
the following:
http://www.digitalcentury.com/encyclo/update/kildall.html .
While there's nothing specific mentioned about hang-gliding, he was
into aeronautics, so the connection seems to be there. He was also a
fellow grad student at UWash in Seattle in the early 70s. Since my
research area was on San Juan Island, WA where there was a major
hang-gliding site in the National Historical Park where I worked,
it's entirely likely we came into contact. Gee - my brush with fame!
Please keep going with these quotes. I luv 'em!
