I seem to be having a problem with the PLL. I am able to lock the PLL sometimes, and it will remain locked for a hour or two. Then for no real reason, the PLL will become unlocked. I am able to sometimes get it to relock by adjusting L102 for 127.335MHz when at 147MHz. This is not repeatable, and it does not always lock once again when adjusting?L102 for the correct frequency. Once I achieve?PLL lock,?it will once again run for a few hours, and then come out of lock again.??
Anyone ever seen this issue? If so, what were your findings?

Hi Rich,

In my case it was an intermittent BNC connector on the 10 MHz reference.

How do you know which PLL is causing the lock problem ? I seem to recall there are voltages associated with each PLL that can be measured, but I will have to look them up.

I replied via the reflector, but not sure the messages went through, so here's a synopsis of the previous messages.

Hi Rich,

It is possible to measure the tuning voltage at the junction of C111, 
R104 and R105.  For diagnostics, it might be best to pick a midband 
frequency and set the tuning voltage around 3.5 volts. The full tuning 
range is roughly 1 to 5 Volts.

A few hints are at

The jumping characteristic would suggest the powdered iron core moving. 
  Be sure it is not out of the metal can.  There can be two tuning 
points and you want the one that is mechanically stable with the core 
far into the can.  You may need to cut/grind the core down in size.

After you are done, don't leave the voltmeter on the tuning voltage, as 
it will AC modulate quite badly!  But this is not a "lock" problem, 
normally, for measuring the voltage.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi Jimmy:?At this time I am using the internal 10MHz XTAL. After review, and running UDIAG2.EXE, I am beginning to worry something may be wrong with the DSP board. UDIAG does not cycle through and bring the appropriate lines to HIGH as outlined by the troubleshooting guide. In my case, all the lines come up high and remain there. ?73

I had a similar problem years ago.? 

First: Rre you using the internal 10 meg crystal or an external source?? My problem existed only with the external 10 meg sorce from my GSlocked Frequency standard and not the on board 10 meg crystal.

My problem turned out to be with with the signal from my external GPSlocked 10 meg source to the DSP10 input.? It was high enough at theGPS Frequency standard but not at the DSP-10. The Level was too low hadgotten lower some how.?? Time to check the RG58.

An investigation showed that the BNC cable and / or connectors had gotten"lossy" and was old.?? ( I was using some"old" leftover RG58 from unknown sources and it had over timedropped the signal to the DSP-10 right to the ragged edge of lock for thePLL. )??? IThe cable was fine 5 years earlier so I put ina NEW and shorter piece of RG58 with NEW connectors and this raised thelevel up that the problem never has occurred again.

This may not be your problem but it fixed mine.

There is a pretty good schematic on the Elecraft site of the interface board. I think this iscalled the KDSP10 and does not include the DSPX. I don't KNOW that this is the same as the DSP-10 setup, but I think it is.

In case you can't get the EZKIT LITE repaired, I still have one New in 
Box never opened Analog Devices ADDS-21XX-EZLITE P/N 35-000286-01.
The cost for this is $100 plus shipping plus PayPal Fee (2.9% plus 0.30 
USD).

As long as I am listing items for sale, I will note that I also have one 
original TAPR DSP-10 kit with Hammond enclosure and new Analog Devices 
ADDS-21XX-EZLITE P/N 35-000286-01 left.

Thanks for the links and files. Even the original manual scan is by far more legible than the ones I have here. I think I will use the Elecraft schematics, as they do look identical, and they are much easier for me to read!?

Hi Mike:
Thanks for the links and files. Even the original manual scan is by far more legible than the ones I have here. I think I will use the Elecraft schematics, as they do look identical, and they are much easier for me to read!?

Let me get make a determination regarding if I do in fact have some sort of ADSP problem. If I do, I will likely take you up on the EZLITE.

In case you can't get the EZKIT LITE repaired, I still have one New in 
Box never opened Analog Devices ADDS-21XX-EZLITE P/N 35-000286-01.
The cost for this is $100 plus shipping plus PayPal Fee (2.9% plus 0.30 
USD).

As long as I am listing items for sale, I will note that I also have one 
original TAPR DSP-10 kit with Hammond enclosure and new Analog Devices 
ADDS-21XX-EZLITE P/N 35-000286-01 left.
The total cost for both the TAPR kit and the EZLITE is 250 USD plus 
shipping plus PayPal Fee (2.9% plus 0.30 USD).

Hi Richard,
I am interested in a DSP-10 kit but have 2 EZKit boards so would not need another. Could you advise a price for the DSP-10 kit alone, if available that way?
