[DSP-10] 8-Watt "Brickette" Amplifier

Hi Doug,
The amplifier question keeps coming up. It would be great if we could
get a full soulution to the module not being available any more. The
boards can still be purchased from ExpressPCB thanks to Mike,
KD7TS---see the main DSP-10 web page.
Here is an idea. It appears that the Mitsubishi RA08H1317M would
functionally do the job. It needs changes for the DC voltages (pin
locations and bias level), and it is physically smaller than the old
module. Also, the drive from some DSP-10s can exceed the 40 mW max
rating, but a simple shunt resistor could provide safety, I suspect. It
is rated 16VDC max, so that should be OK. If somebody wanted to change
the existing board design, I would be available to support the effort by
email, and could also do testing of various issues including IM levels.
Some level of group buy would then need to be coordinated by
somebody---any volunteers? A group buy also gives a way to pay for the
prototyper's PCB costs.
I looked at the ExpressPCB page, and it seems like we could get 50
boards for less than $10 each. In 50's, the modules are around $16 and
the nifty Hammond 1590BB boxes are around $11 painted black. Seems like
the costs are not out of control for a group buy. I have no idea how
much interest there is---50 may be unreasonable??
Any thoughts?
