[DSP-10] DOSBOX

Hi Frank,

I am running DOSBOX in Windows XP.
I'll go ahead and include the link to DOSBOX that Mike KD7TS pasted in:

http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/

Before you can communicate with the DSP using the serial port, you must
open the DOSBOX.conf file and do a little editing. You must
change the serial port configuration:

[serial]
# serial1-4 -- set type of device connected to com port.
# Can be disabled, dummy, modem, nullmodem, directserial.
# Additional parameters must be in the same line in the form of
# parameter:value. Parameter for all types is irq.
# for directserial: realport (required), rxdelay (optional).
#              for modem: listenport (optional).
# for nullmodem: server, rxdelay, txdelay, telnet, usedtr,
# transparent, port, inhsocket (all optional).
#              Example: serial1=modem listenport:5000

serial1=directserial realport:COM1 startbps:9600 irq:4
serial2=dummy
serial3=disabled
serial4=disabled

(Thanks to Tim AB6CM for this tip)

The only other thing I did was to add a line to the end of the
configuration file that automatically mounts the directory [uhfa380]
to a simulated "drive" of your choice, and then switches to that
drive (DOSBOX starts as Z:\ , any files must be "mounted" to other
"drives", in my case A:\) like this, in my case:

[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.

mount A C:\uhfa380

A:\

These lines go ahead and mount your uhfa380 directory and switch
to the right "drive" so that your first command can be "uhfa #"
(uhfa runs uhfa.exe, with # being the port number you'd like to use
to communicate with the DSP)

Hope this answers all the questions, and thanks again to everyone
who helped me figure this thing out. DOSBOX is a good solution if
you have a computer with enough speed to handle the demands,
and it provides a way to run the DSP-10 in a Windows environment.
I still think I'll be getting an old surplus laptop to dedicate to the DSP-10.

Hi Jeremy,
I have been reading with interest your results with DOS BOX. I had not heard of this program until you mentioned it.
Could you please share a little more about your exoperience with it. Are you running a PC or Mac?
XT?
What sort of configuration se-up is necessary for the DSP-10 to work with it?
Regards,
Frank WB6CWN  I
