Hello,
I got one of the last kits from TAPR last week - Tuesday in
mail, I got to the point Friday that I was missing regulators JFETS, FETS
and a Toroid.
I sent a note to TAPR and received the parts this Thursday and put in FETS
etc. found mixer shielding mod with solderwik and did that on U15,
Thought it wouldn't be bad for U3 to.
One site I found put PCB strips between sections where grounds are does
anyone know if this is a help to for performance? I could put it in now.
Also noticed the hardware is set up for the EZKIT and I got the DSPx,
smaller board, so I have to get some mounting hardware.
I put the other parts on board audio, dc connector, switch, regulator, DB9.
I can see this still fits in box and they did supply a male db9 I guess for
that reason.
One thought was mini-phone connectors on case to access DSP for other
experiments in audio and radio.
Second Question here is the regulator needed on DSP since it draws less
current and can I just get it from RF board supply anyone know, I did see
this done on one website.
Now the RF amp, I got one and no board available. I could hand etch one, and
then get a box etc.
What is anyone's thoughts on just putting it in the main box heat sinked to
the box and built in a PCB box and changing the main fuse to 2 amps, and
using regular non SMT parts for chokes etc. I can gut inductors from old TV
boards. This would move the RF out jack to the other side on box and RF amp
could be bolted under it. Or add an external heat sink on back; maybe just
bolt one on outside. I just don't want to turn the box into oven. Wonder how
much heat it puts out.
Other Idea is to just but Amp in box with a Battery to run it and the
receiver.
Had a few more mod's in mind crystal oven, GPS lock, internal SWR tied to
DSP I/O and internal temperature sensors and a small DC/DC switch mode
supply with pic micro so I can run receiver and up the voltage on RF amp to
15 or so volts if I want to. Got a Pickit2 from microchip and can put it to
use. But all this can come later. Need to Drill box now. Well of to VA
Baypines for my treadmill test. Wish me luck.
