Hello Andy and the DSP-10 List,

Great start! I was able to get the DSP-10 control panel to run by upgrading
the 1.4.2 JRE previously used for RainScatter to the newer 1.5 JRE from Sun
at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp. Click on Download JRE (for
Windows or other platforms). The latter runs both the DSP-10 front-end and
RainScatter here fine on this XP laptop.

I like the overall panel layout and the tuning knob implementation in
particular. It looks good enough to give it a try now.

Questions, comments, observations:

1. Will the Java console still use a config file or are you going to put
everything in some pull down menus? That config file directs the whole
show.

2. The "MHz" term in the frequency display is almost redundant and adds
some unnecessary visual distraction. If you feel it needs to be there, then
put a little space between it and the numbers/and or make it smaller.

3. I'd love to see more memories than just the A/B VFOs. We have a half
dozen beacons along with the calling frequency to check in my area, and
having them just a click away would be handy.

4. Include direct frequency entry.

5. Keep the ability to change the significant frequency digits when an
outboard transverter is used for other bands.

6. Use the same keyboard shortcuts if possible for those of us who learned
them. It can be quicker than the mouse when you know them.

Looking forward to the next test release. Keep up the good work. See you
all on the air!

Frank WB6CWN
