Hi Bob,

Thank you for providing the detailed information.

You are right, I did not have an antenna or preamp hooked up to the rig
to add excess noise, I was using a HP8640B signal generator set to
provide a very weak carrier on 144.200 MHz at about -145dBm. 

It is interesting, now I know what quantization noise sounds like. 

It appeared that the signal was 3-6dB stronger on the spectral display.
It will be great when this software is debugged.
