He is trying to just get the "sign-on" from the DSPx. It just requires
simple ASCII transfer, not the downloading of the DSP10 code.
Any program that is written for Windows and uses the standard Windows API
(like HyperTerm) can support a standard serial port. If you are attempting
to use a non-legacy PC, you will need to add a PCI serial port card. If you
are using a laptop with only USB ports, you can still find PCMCIA (PC Card)
serial ports. They are rare but available. Some USB to serial adapters
work better than others. Linux won't help you run DOS programs as it is a
protected mode OS that "filters" all hardware calls just like Windows.
Buy you an old PC or laptop and run DOS on it. You can also "dual boot" a
XP machine into plain old DOS. Don't expect an "F-18" to fly like a Curtis
Flyer.
