Bob, TAPR folks, and others:
I got my kit on Wednesday and so far so good, I've copleted all of the
resistors. The resistor layout sheet had a few descrepencies and I can't
always figure out the component numbering. However, I'm happy with the kit
so far (in my EE classes we used breadboards and simulations :( ).
Anyone:
I do have a beginner question. Anywhere I see SMT soldering techniques
described it is said the fillets should be filled in so that there's a
concave slope as opposed to a bulge. Is there a reason for this? This is
my first kit of any type and my first few seemed to be 'bulgy'. It cost me
a good amount of time to use use the wick and then resolder. I've started
to develop the technique to get a 'proper fillet', but I can't understand
why.
Thanks again and I can't wait to get on the air,
Chris Mitchell
