[DSP-10] Sourceing HSMP-3804 and LMX1501A.

Greetings:

Coincidentally, I just received some samples for the LMX2335 part today.
Here are some quick notes to help clarify for possible future designs.

Yes, the pinouts are different. There are a number of package
opportunities. The LMX2335LTM is what I obtained via samples. Whoops.
Pins are REALLY close together. The LMX2335M is the more standard SOIC with
0.05" spacing pins.

Protocol to the part is indeed different. The prescaler allows for
different divide-by opportunites. Synthesizer has some programmable
features as well. The 2181 / DSP-10 interface would work great in driving
the part though.

Pricing is great. Single quantities via digikey are $3.05.

I'm motivated to think about prototyping a VCO with this part and figuring
out what would have to change in the code to drive it. I read some things
on an overseas web page (another ham) re. The 2335. He said the 2335 was
quite a fun part, for the flexibility it presents. Considering it is a
currently-manufactured part, it's worth playing with a little bit. My only
concern is its limited lower-frequency range. It appears it may not
function well under about 50 MHz. My application involved exploiting the
highly-flexible prescaler. I hadn't thought of the PLL portion, until this
evening.

FYI.

I suspect you typo'd and the part number is LMX2335LM. In that case, they
are both 1100 MHz. PLL chips in a 16 pin "SO" package. Unfortunately, the
similarity ends there. They are NOT pin compatible and since there block
functions differ, I suspect their programming differs also. Go with TAPR
for the parts until (if?) the DSP-10 PC board/software is updated. The
LMX2316 is listed as the suggested replacement but it is in a TSSOP package
that has finer lead pitch, and many other differences.
