[DSP-10] Choices of Oven VCXOs?

Hello All!

Since the list of possible hardware solutions for the DSP-10 is again
appearing, I would again recommend an item that was originally recommended
by others. I got two of them (one for a spare) and have been very happy.

The device is a turn-key HP-made GPS controlled 10 MHz double ovenized
oscillator. They have frequently been available on eBay; I got mine
directly from BuyLegacy.com rather than thru eBay. You could email James at
BuyLegacy.com, at [email protected] . The price last autumn was $399 if you
contacted him directly, and each unit came with a very nice reproduction of
the HP manual.

The device is an HP Z3801A.

I have had a Z3801A running 24/7 here to control the DSP-10, my homebrew
receiver for Linrad, etc. with NO problems. I previously had a Brooks Shera
unit, but replaced that with the Z3801A last autumn, because of occasional
flakiness of MY implementation of the homebrew Brooks Shera controller. I
am sure the problem was with my construction, but nevertheless, I wanted a
unit that would not ever 'wander off of lock' since I count on some of the
receivers here running unattended 24/7, and the HP here fits this bill.

I use the Z3801A with the same tiny patch Motorola antenna I had used with
the TAC-2 in the past.

The units are built like only HP could, and seem like they would survive a
direct hit by any non-nuclear device. (Too bad the REAL HP is no more).

I hope that is of some help/interest to someone on the list.
