a legal contract until the vendor has accepted it!
There was a case recently where a company mis-advertised TV's - they
went to court and successfully defended their case under these terms -
ie that their advertised price didn't form a binding contract until they
actually accepted the order - ie it was an offer to sell. Some legal
wrangling anyway and the customer lost out.
Kodak had a similar problem recently offering digital cameras at a very
cheap price. They actually stood by the price even though it cost the
company $1million!
