Hi, I got two of them nearly a year ago and am very happy with them.
THey work very well here with just a tiny active Motorola patch antenna
sitting on the window sill of my shack, though better antennas are
recommended.
I use the Z3801A (which I got from Buy Legacy; they are great to deal with)
as the frequency standard for the shack, controlling the LO's for the DSP-10
as well as the home brew receiver I use with Linrad. Will run 24 /7 with no
problems. I put my homebuilt (Brooks Shera type) disciplined oscillator in
the attic when I got these. It worked well, but these are more robust in
construction and keeping lock than my homebuilt unit was (due to my
construction abilities, not the homebrew unit's design).
There is HP software that give nice displays of the units and allows you to
change their parameters. Its called "SatStat".
The units take -54 vDC to operate (range -37 to -60), and I run mine at -48
Volts. I use a supply SPN75-48S from KGCOMP, which I got from either
DigiKey or Mouser or Jameco as I recall.
The units computer interface is RS422, and I got an ATEN RS232-RS485
converter, the IC-D485S to connect the unit to a PC.
Many of us paid $399 per unit a year ago; so $249 is a great price. That's
the price Buy Legacy has them listed for in their ad in the latest QEX.
Hope that helps!
