[DSP-10] dsp/radio mods for dsp board

Hi, Brent:

This is easy to do. I did it before I got my DSP-10 running. Its been a
couple of years or MORE now, so I am a bit rusty on the details, plus the
software has changed.

I used a couple of TUF-1 mixers and synthesizers to mix the RF signal down
to a 15 KHz IF as I recall. I just hooked an antenna (or preamp) up to the
input of the first TUF one, set the first LO to the required frequency to
mix down to wherever I had the 2nd IF filter, added an RF amp, ran thru the
second TUF-1 into a baseband amp, and then into the DSP 10.

I have the schematic (with the LO1 set for 144 MHz use and LO2 set for
output at 0-96 KHz, but the result is perfectly generalizable) on my website
at:

"Audio out" goes right to the EZ-Kit Lite input.

Then I put the DSP-10 into RF mode. That means not using it in the audio
processor mode. I think I found that I could use it in either AF or RF
mode, but preferred RF mode. I don't recall why; maybe some of the receive
functions didn't work on AF? I just don't recall. I do recall that there
were differences in how the receiver behaved between the two modes, and that
both were usable, but I preferred the RF mode, I think. I would go back and
hook it all up again to try, but I am deep in the midst of another project
right now ;)

This setup worked great on all bands I tried it on, from 160 meters thru 432
MHz. I used it with converters up thru 2304 MHz, before getting the DSP-10
hardware done. I've played with the DSP-10 hardware with converters thru 24
GHz.

I hope that is enough to wet your appetite. All you need to do is to mix
down from whatever your starting frequency is to 15 KHz, and make sure
you've got some filtering so you don't get images.

I used a computer-controlled synthesizer for the first IF, so that i could
just dial across the bands with the computer keyboard. I had this all very
well documented at one time but hard disk crashes caused me to use the
copies of it all. There is still some related stuff on my website, but not
the details on doing this with the DSP-10 specifically, I don't think.

Let me know if you have any futher questions!
