Ron,
  The AF GAIN pot failure is common on TR-4’s, the carbon trace on the phenolic opens. Drake ran out of them for repairs quickly. I was unable to obtain one even back in the 90’s though many TR-4 parts were still available. Your only hope is to possibly repair it using parts from another potentiometer. I began trying to do that some years back but havent done much with it lately. It is possible, you just have to find the right parts donor!
