[Drake] Better Antenna Connector on Drake R-4B Receiver

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. It was just a thought but I see the
wisdom in not changing anything. I don't make a habit of unplugging and
plugging in the cables. What prompted the thought was the fact that at the
moment the unit is open on the workbench and when I went to look for a cable
to run from my coax patch box (from the antenna) to the unit, the difference
in connectors got me to thinking about the idea. Normally the receiver
stays in position on the radio desk and stays connected.

The only reason I thought about the 239 connector was due to the
availability of them. I have enough here. For BNC and other types, I'd
have to buy them but it's not worth the effort. And as for as going away
from the RCA style, the thought of the press on "petals" which might relax
their tension over time vs. the threaded screw on 239 style.

So my decision is that I will make no changes. Thanks all for the comments.

Now to see why the audio has a bit of a "warbling" quality to it. Slight
but noticeable.

I concur with the others. Whatever you decide to do, don't drill a hole. It
will reduce the resale value of your rig. It is interesting to note that the
2B has a factory stamped chassis hole for an SO-239, the type with the
square flange.

Has anyone replaced the original RCA style antenna connector on the back of
a Drake receiver with a SO-239 connector? I'm considering doing so and
perhaps even replacing the other end which is on the back of the T-4XB
transmitter with the same. I'm thinking perhaps this would result in a more
long term secure connection between the transmitter and receiver. I've
looked at the area around the connector on the back panel of the chassis and
it should fit fine. I've got the receiver opened and on the work bench
right now doing some other work on it so I thought it might be a good time
to consider that.

Thoughts?
