[Drake] Common faults

All,
I forgot to mention that a fault of the R8s involves the whole bunch of
(a technical term) diodes in the front end. In the vicinity of a
transmitter, these can blow.
In a used an sickly R8 that I sent in to Drake, rather than
trouble-shoot the blown diodes, they simply replaced them all. I called
and asked about this and the technician said that wholesale replacement
was usually less expensive than finding the bad ones and replacing only
those, so that was their procedure.
A technically astute friend offered that the diodes were a bit weak for
the service and that was why there were wholesale failures.
