I got a couple of the Heil HC104 kits from R&L Electronics....matching
transformer and all.
Not cheap by any standards but they work well.
Most guys like the sound of the D-104 better due to its better articulation.
I had a couple of dead D-104's hanging around so I decided to try the kit.
Overall I guess I am satisfied....other stations are not complaining but for
the most part they prefer the D-104 on a direct A/B comparison.

Heil used to offer a kit that would adapt one of their dynamic cartridges to
the D-104. It might be worth a call to find out if they can still do it.
I haven't used one in a D-104, but my main station mic is an Astatic 10D mic
housing with an HC-5 element in it using a piece of packing foam to position
it. Works great - at least great enuf for a mainly CW op!
