David,
You will have to ask others on the list about modern replacement of germanium transistors.  Seems like the germanium devices were used because they were common "in the day" and had an easier time going into self oscillation, but don't quote me on that.

Diodes are B5G5 per my notes, rated 600v 1A as I recall.  Not sure how they got away with them being so close to "the edge".  Use 1N5399 rated at 1KV and 1.5A that are easy to find and should cover the specs well.

Only thing that went wrong with mine was filter caps.  Kind of think the high freq gave the caps issues.  Also the DC3 was made exclusively for the XCVRs, while the DC4 had a 115V AC socket for the RX of a twins configuration.
