Regarding the raspy sidetone problem that everyone complains about:

I built a simple series resonant circuit consisting of a high inductance
torroid and a mylar capacitor. This combo was wired in series with the
secondary of T2, the output transformer that drives the speaker.  The
components fit under the chassis and work like a champ.  Values of 33mH and
1.33uF (two caps in parallel) gave me the correct resonance with the
generated tone.
