[Drake] MN 2000 Knobs Loose, KnobsTight

Say, I'd appreciate the collective wisdom: The band switch knob on my MN 2000 gets loose on it's shaft every few months are so, and this requires re-tightening the slotted set screw which retains the knob. Of course, not too difficult, but a hassle, and I'd like to know a way to prevent it, if possible.
Seems like there's an awful lot of torque on that knob. Would opening up the case and lubing and/or adjusting the bandswitch help, and if so at what points? In another approach, where a set screw loosened in it's own knob, a friend has had good results using Teflon plumbers tape wrapped around the set screw, which seems to keep the set screw tight. I'm not sure my knob is the problem, although maybe it is and also maybe the control is just too hard to turn. Maybe both at this point?
One more : while the 2 other knobs (Reactive and Resistive) stay tight, using them is tricky, as there is not that much vernier, so the slightest turn of the wrist throws the SWR a bit too much this way or that, and it's kind of tricky to get just right. I saw one other approach to this in a mod which a guy used...he installed vernier controls, but I'd like to stay stock. Can these controls be cleaned, lubed, and/or adjusted inside to loosen up their travel?
    Thanks in advance!
