Bob,
This is an active list, although the activity is not anywhere close to that
on the GB list. I am a bit surprised that you haven't received any
responses but I am also sure you will.
My experience is with a first gen R4C. I found it to be a very able
receiver on SSB and CW especially after a couple of fairly simple mods to
the product detector and the audio stage. I use all Drake filters. IIRC,
they are the 2400, 500 and 250 Hz filters. My next step, when I get it up
and running again, is to acquire the Sherwood roofing filter.
In monitoring this list, more than one user has said that the R4B is the
best of the R4 bunch. Don't recall that much being said about the R4A.
Did you have a chance to review the Drake list archives? You will likely
find some informative comments.
Good luck es 73,
Chris

Subject: [Drake] 4-Line Receivers?
I am a Heath SB twin owner. A friend got me interested in trying a pair of
Drake twins.
I would like to hear opinions of the 4-Line receivers. I am currently giving
serious consideration to purchasing a R4A next month if I can find one.
