Fellows,
Does anyone have experience with the audio outpt 14-pin DIP LM380 going bad on the 2nd IF/Audio board of the TR-7?  I bought my TR-7 about 22 years ago used, and it has worked well ever since (even after replacing the voltage regs and some transistors that got blown to pieces about 14 years ago from a lightning strike).  Last weekend, my audio all of a sudden went to nothing, but I still got S-meter readings acoss 20 meters, and could turn up the audio gain (all the way) and still hear the stations a little.  Board re-seating has not helped.  The output chip was replaced by the previous owner, or a repair shop, but the solder job looks like the work of a 6-year old.  Should I use a socket to put the new chip in, with some sort of heat-sink (provided I can save the traces from the bad solder job)?

Any advice would help, and I appreciate it very much.

73,
Mark
