Joe -
All the Drake 4 Series units are interchangeable.
The only thing I can think of is that the SPR-4/TA-4 combo does NOT have
a Carrier Osc connection which is used to "phase lock" the Carrier Osc
in the transmitter and the 3rd Mixer LO in the receiver together for
transceive stability. The earlier 4 Series units relied on luck,
superseded by color coded crystals in the late "A" and "B" units, to
maintain the receiver and transmitter on exactly the same frequency when
transceiving with one PTO controlling.
So.... Unless you plan to operate _SSB_ transceive, this situation is
of NO consequence. For CW transceive, you would just perform the
"transceive align" adjustment and forget it.
