All,
Thanks for all of the suggestions. The fix was the dad gum relay. I looked at
as some suggested, but not closely enough. When I used the manual and started
checking tube pin voltages I kept coming up with high voltages (around 182V) at
V3 Pin 7, V7 Pin 7, V11 Pin 7, and V12 Pin 7. The voltage chart shows they
should be single digit when in receive mode. I looked at the schematic and
found a common wire called RCVR Cath. I also traced that wire to that dad gum
relay. When I looked at the relay with a magnifying glass, I found the second
contact was permanently bent down. I took an alligator jumper and shorted the
top contact to ground, and started hearing SSB on 40 meters.
n5kae suggested I bend the contact with tweezers and clean it with dioxit and
paper. It now receives great, but only transmits about 20 watts max. I suspect
the finals have lived their useful life... I now plan to go through it with the
manual and tune it up. I really appreciate everyone's help.
Thanks,
Robert

Subject: TR3 Issue
Hello All,
I just got me a TR3 from EBay and it is not working. After I plugged it in, the
150v reg. tube was sparking. I replaced it with another one and solved the
sparking issue.
I do not receive any signal switching between all bands and modes (I have an
open 1/4 plug in the CW plug). All of the voltages from my AC4 are good, and I
validated the regulated 150 voltage is good. I tested also tested all of the
tubes on a tube tester and they all indicate good. I can get the speaker to hum
by touching volt/ohm meter on audio pot, and the carrier detect pot, but that is
as far as I have gone. Another interesting symptom is the S meter goes all the
way to the right after the radio warms up. I appreciate any insight you can
provide me on this issue.
Thanks,
Robert
