A newer way to get the benefits of a noise blanker and other features is
to get a Softrock module mixer that is tapped into the 5645 KHz IF in
the R-4C. This is run to a sound card and uses one of the several
software programs that do the Software Defined Radio detection.
I have hooked one to my TR-7 and find that the results are amazing for
signal processing, filtering and noise reduction. Plus you get the
spectrum display of a small portion of the band so you can see what is
going on around the frequency you are tuned to.
Tony Parks, KB9YIG is the creator of the Softrock series and there is a
web site in Yahoo that has a lot of info on the modules. The current
version is the Softrock Lite.
