What is the difference between the TR-7 and the TR-7A. I have a
operational TR-7 and will soon have a non-operational TR-7A. I would
be nice to be able to swap out the boards between the two units to
find out where the trouble is with the TR-7A.
The Story on these two radios is kind of interesting. This TR-7 ( and
the TR-7A) where both owned by the National Science Foundation (NSF)
and they where used to maintain communications with their research
stations in the Antarctic. The nice thing about this TR-7 it has most
all of the bells and whistle installed and it is opened up so by
default it has the WARC bands and 60 meters. It doesn't have a full
set of filters but International Radio makes a full set for the TR-7
as well as the 1st and 2nd IF's filters for the R4, R4C, and the SSB
filter for TR-4. I have installed these filters on some of my other
transceivers and I can tell you they are better then the originals,
If you have and older rig this outfit does make custom filters so if
you are missing such a thing for one of your old dinosaurs ask them
they might just be able to help you. For those of you who have been
around for awhile International Radio was once called Fox Tango
International, and started out as a support group for the Yaesu FT-101
series.
