Many thanks to everyone for their thoughts on the R4C sensitivity Sunday.

As a result I ordered and built the Elecraft XG2 tri-band receiver test 
oscillator this week.  What a sweet tool.  3 bands (80, 40, 20)  crystal controlled 
50 and 1 microvolt source to +/- 2 db.  

The R4C S-meter showed between S8.5 and 9 on all 3 bands with the meter 
"zero'd" (actually on 1), and a nice loud signal at 1 microvolt, have to drag out 
the scope to do the MDS but it should be close to very good.

I've got to wonder how many times in the last 30 years I've wasted time 
tweaking and fiddling for no real good without a clue as to actual S meter reading 
and MDS - great suggestion.  At 60 bucks it was still cheaper than a retube 
for piece of mind.
