Marty -

The "A" is a direct replacement for the "7".   The only difference is 
that the "A" has a two pole crystal filter at 5.645 MHz added.  I 
believe this was added at the time the R-7 came out, and the "A" is the 
recommended NB for the R-7.  Essentially it just adds two more poles to 
the "roofing" filter in the TR-7/R-7.
